Labour Wins Election By A Landslide

New Zealand PM Ardern Wins Re-Election In Best Showing For Labour Party In Decades

With most of the votes counted, Ardern's liberal Labour Party has won 49%. It's the best showing for the Labour party in at least 50 years. It's also the highest result for any party since the country switched to a proportional representation system in 1996.

APTOPIX New Zealand Election

Māori Party heading back to Parliament after electorate win. Rawiri Waititi has won the Māori electorate of Waiariki, taking it back for his party from Labour's Tamati Coffey.

Waititi won the seat by 415 votes, however, that changed to on special votes and he doubled his election-night majority to 836.

The Māori Party picked up one more seat, which goes to co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer who comes in on the list, which means that two Maori party MP’s are back in. Great news for the Māori party who ran on a campaign of One Tick, not two.
