Waipu Hauora’s Sixth Annual Pink Ribbon Breakfast

Waipu Hauora held their sixth annual Pink Ribbon Breakfast at Hungahungatoroa Marae this morning. Event coordinator, Riria Te Kani, stated that all funds raised at this year’s Pink Ribbon Breakfast will go towards medical research into Breast Cancer.

Riria also emphasizes the importance of kai as an incentive to bring people together, Research shows that Maori are increasing in fatalities, increasing in diagnosis and getting diagnosed younger. Kai brings whanau together, kai encourages good vibes and kai encourages korero. We want to look after our wahine and connect with our whanau. These kaupapa are a great way to engage, inform and support our wahine Maori.

The theme for this year’s Pink Ribbon Breakfast was high-tea. Chef Steven Wilson from Happy Puku collaborated with local ringawera of Hungahungatoroa Marae to create a buffet of French cuisine, finger foods with seafood touches, complimented with pink-themed baked goodies from Melting Moments.
